Projections, Lighting & Attire

The 1969 artwork is a collage made up of 13 geometric figures. Each colour block represents an artist/song on the 1969 album. Since each artist will have an 8-10 minute moment on stage I’d like to strengthen their moment by going all in on the colour that is associated to their song on the 1969 album. I imagine a general projection of the global artwork that can serve as the foundation for the whole set. In the introduction of the set, transitions between artists, and finale, I imagine this projection dominating. Ideally without the greige background and “1969”, just the geometric figure itself

When an artist comes to the stage for their moment, I imagine all colours around the palette fading away, and just their respective colour block remaining. I would love for them to dress in attire that reflects/compliments that colour, and ideally create an on stage lighting palette that plays into it as well.

For example, Safia’s colour fo “Tu Danses, Condessa” is RED. When she is performing one of her songs, I’d love for the main artwork to fade into just the red block that represents her.

This also gives us some fun opportunities, that if we have a duet with 2 of the artists, we can leave both of their colours up to present the unity of that moment.

Additionally, I would like to make use of the incredible Super 8 footage we captured of each artist. You can see all of the inidividual artist capsules on this website in the top left navigation. We also shot a 5 minute documentary. I would like to open the show with an edit of this video, a 2 minute cutdown including only the 9 artists that will be present, with a tarantino-esque credit slide with all participating artists names. This will be sequenced over a new arrangement of Nancy Sinatra’s You Only Live Twice that will morph into a short arrangement of “Deux Coeurs Vagabonds” by Ariane Moffatt. After this intro, we will start the show with our first artist appearance of Elliot Maginot. Reference below (I of course will edit myself out of the opening shot!!! I dont want to be there ahaha!!)

Stage Layout

Would love to focus on the musicians, create 2 risers at the back left and right of the stage. On the left elevated space for the quartet, on the right for the Artist BV gang.

Easy flow from right to left for the artists
